February is Cancer Awareness Month

I am among the bloggers who were chosen by the Mesothelioma + Asbestos Awareness Center to help spread the word about cancer awareness. Most of us have been impacted by this condition in one way or another, whether having cancer ourselves or knowing someone who has suffered from it.  Cancer is devastating in many ways, not just physically.  Cancer can alter a family's finances and emotional states.  Cancer can take a toll on those who have lost a loved one.  While there are many advances in treatments, each of us must be proactive in lowering our risks.   The Mesothelioma + Asbestos Awareness Center has created a graphic with a few easy steps you and your loved ones can take to lower your risk of cancer. They work to spread awareness of the rare but preventable disease mesothelioma, which is caused by exposure to asbestos.  Asbestos is a material which is still legal in the United States and Canada.

I might also add (here comes my RN voice) that you get regular age-appropriate screenings such as mammograms, colonoscopy, and dermatology (skin cancer screening).  Working together with your health care provider can help increase your chances of a long, healthy life!

Thanks for stopping by!  Here's to good health!
